Berkeley, CA — LG Electronics’ newest smartphone LG VELVET began launching in European markets on June. LG VELVET is a part of a new branding strategy for LG Mobile, adopting more expressive names that better fit the individual smartphone. This stylish smartphone comes with several unique highlights, such as the distinctive design with a water droplet-inspired camera, front-back symmetrical curves, and a 6.8-inch, 20.5:9 aspect ratio OLED Cinematic FullVision display that optimizes the viewing experience. With a strong emphasis on immersive audio, VELVET integrates the Stereo Speakers and LG 3D Sound Engine, with the latter capable of analyzing and optimizing the audio output based on the type of content that is playing. Here, Gaudio Lab’s Spatial Upmix enables the LG 3D Sound Engine to intensify the fully immersive experience over headphones or earphones. The Spatial Upmix on VELVET adds dimension and pushes sound in every direction, bringing an immersive audio scene from legacy stereophonic content like music, movies, and games.

What is Spatial Upmix? Why is it different from legacy 3D audio?
Existing 3D audio technologies distort the original audio signal and perpetuate sound quality issues. Like too much editing or over-filtering harms the original pictures, it is quite similar when producing 3D audio. The matrix mixing L/R signals and excessive reverb for making a 3D effect cause the audio distortion, such as spectral coloration and phase distortion. Therefore, audiophiles would not ever want to listen. However, the Spatial Upmix gives your ears a fully immersive experience as if you are in the scene without a manipulated audio signal. Unlike legacy 3D audio technologies, it first extracts each sound object from the stereo mix and then renders (spatializes) them to the 3D sound scene on the basis of binaural rendering technology adopted as part of the next-generation of audio standard ISO/IEC 23008-3 MPEG-H.

How does Spatial Upmix benefit LG VELVET users?

“Immersive sensory experience wherever sound goes,” said Ben Chon, Ph.D., and CSO of Gaudio Lab. “When watching movies and dramas, you would feel as if you are in the same event with the characters as the story unfolds. And when listening to music, you would feel the music come alive and surround you rather than static and flat in one spot.

Gaudio Lab Won Two “CES Innovation Awards”

Gaudio Lab Won Two “CES Innovation Awards”   SEOUL, South Korea, November 17, 2022 – Gaudio Lab, a leading AI audio technology company, announced that it won two “CES Innovation Awards,” which was held ahead of CES 2023, the world’s biggest IT consumer electronics and technology trade show that will take place in Las Vegas, in January 2023.   Gaudio Lab won two awards for its “Loudness Management 1 (LM1)” and “Gaudio Spatial Audio (GSA),” maintaining its reputation as one of the market leaders in the audio technology.   Gaudio’s LM1 technology provides optimal sound levels tailored to an individual's playback environment and device regardless of the types of streaming media services and platforms the individual listens to. By properly setting the media volume coming from various streaming platforms so that it can fit into the users’ environment, the technology can prevent the inconvenience of suddenly increased or decreased volume and a potential hearing loss. The LM1 technology is highly preferred as it can prevent potential risks of damage in original content and distortion of sound quality because the LM1 utilizes metadata. This technology has proven the innovativeness of its cutting-edge technology, as it has been officially recognized by the ANSI/CTA-2075.1 standard.   The GSA technology held by Gaudio Lab provides a sense of dimension to the sound so that users with earbuds can vividly experience the contents. In particular, the GSA can be integrated into wireless earbuds called True Wireless Stereo (TWS), providing high-quality sound with the lowest in-industry motion-to-sound latency. With GSA-integrated earbuds, users can enjoy immersive sound experiences not only via smartphones but with any visual devices.   “We are proud that our audio technology is proved to be the world’s best once again on the global stage,” said Henney Oh, CEO of Gaudio Lab. “We will not settle for the present and will try our best to innovate technology and provide more users with seamless and comfortable listening experiences.”   Gaudio Lab’s winning products of the CES Innovation Awards will be exhibited in an integrated Korean Pavilion at the Eureka Park during CES 2023 early next year.       ▲ Gaudio Lab’s Loudness Management 1(LM1)   ▲ Gaudio Lab’s Spatial Audio (GSA)
